More about the Adopt-A-Horse Program

Which horses are available for adoption?

Visit our horses page to learn more about each of our horses and their adoption status.

Will my donation be tax deductible?

TREE House of Greater St. Louis is a recognized non-profit organization under section 501 c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under most circumstances, your donation will be tax deductible; however you should always check with your tax advisor for specific requirements.

How is payment received?

You may pay your sponsorship fee all at one time, or it may be split up into monthly payments during the duration of your adoption period. Payments can be made through our website, in person, via US postal mail, or through direct withdrawal.

Where does the money go?

All of the money designated to the Adopt-A-Horse Program will be used for general maintenance of your horse as well as for special needs, feed or medical supplements, special training, the purchase of equipment such as blankets, saddles, and bridles, and special projects geared toward making our horse more safe and comfortable (such as fencing and run-in sheds) or more productive (such as round pen and other training equipment.) 100% of donations is used to cover the expenses that come along with caring for a herd of approximately 20 horses.

Can I visit the horse I adopt?

One of the benefits of being an adoptee is that you are welcome to stop by and visit your horse, but we do ask that you call ahead to determine when your horse is not providing life changing therapy. You will not be allowed to ride your horse due to insurance regulations; however in some circumstances, you may be allowed to groom your horse and assist with some of his/her daily care.
